  • B.B.A. Department Best Practice: Worker Interaction and Welfare

On 2nd December 2025, the students of the B.B.A. Department, D.R.K. College of Commerce, Kolhapur, took part in a unique Best Practice Activity at the Jaggery Manufacturing Unit (Gurhal). Guided by HOD Dr. Seema Benade Ma’am, the initiative aimed to provide students with practical insights into industrial operations while fostering social awareness and responsibility.

During the visit, students closely observed the entire jaggery production process—from sugarcane cutting and juice extraction to purification, boiling, thickening, molding, drying, and packaging. This hands-on exposure helped them understand the operational challenges faced by workers at each stage of production.

The highlight of the activity was the interaction with the workers, where students learned about their financial and human resource challenges. Under the guidance of Dr. Benade Ma’am, the students provided counseling and practical advice related to financial management, workplace safety, and workers’ rights. Adding a special touch to the activity, students organized a Fruit Distribution for the workers and also distributed snacks to the children of the workers. This thoughtful gesture not only promoted health and wellbeing but also strengthened the bond between students and the community they were engaging with.

The activity had a profound impact on the students. It enhanced their empathy, social responsibility, and leadership skills, while providing a real-world perspective on the challenges of industrial operations. By linking classroom concepts with practical experience, students gained valuable insights into HR, finance, and operational management in agro-based industries.

Overall, this initiative was an enriching experience that combined learning, social service, and community engagement, making it a remarkable example of how education can extend beyond the classroom.
